Eastport Homeowner Concerned About Their Damp Crawl Space

This Eastport, ME, homeowner was worried that their damp and musty crawl space would eventually lead to health issues if the problem wasn’t solved. With no plan of moving or selling the home, the homeowner also wanted to address the problem of the floors above the crawl space being cold in the winter months. The homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems for help, and System Design Specialist Craig Ziegenbein met with the homeowner for a free estimate.

Craig worked with the homeowner to design a crawl space encapsulation system that would surpass the expectations of the homeowner and protect the health of the home and their family. CleanSpace with Drainage Matting was laid down and attached to the walls to encapsulate the space, creating an inorganic barrier to protect from moisture and outside elements. A SmartSump was installed to pump groundwater out of the space and through an Exterior Buried Discharge Line. A SmartJack was installed to provide additional support to the floor above, and to finish the system, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was installed to keep humidity at a safe level. Having to regularly empty out a dehumidifier bucket can be annoying, so to prevent the homeowner from having to check often, the SaniDry Sedona is connected to the SmartSump, ensuring all water is pumped out of the crawl space and no bucket ever has to be emptied.

The crawl space is now fully encapsulated, and the homeowner can live and enjoy their home without the concern of a damp and musty crawl space affecting the health of their family and home.

StableLock Saves a Failing Foundation Without Lifting the Home

Over time, stone foundations begin to break down, allowing for gaps to form that allow in water, creating a breeding ground of high humidity and mold growth. Gaps in a foundation can also lead to shifting, which creates an unstable foundation that could potentially ruin the health of a home and lead to damage if not properly fixed. Typically, a failing foundation would have to be replaced by lifting a home and pouring a new foundation. This would involve the homeowner moving out of their home for a period of time and having to make extensive changes to plumbing and electrical during the lift. StableLock by TC Hafford Basement Systems saves the current foundation and prevents the homeowner from having to go through the trouble of lifting their home.

This Shapleigh, ME, homeowner had a failing foundation that was allowing water in and creating an unhealthy home environment. This has been their home for over 40 years, and it was important to them to fix the situation promptly. The homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and System Design Specialist Michael Penna met with the homeowner for a free estimate. Michael Penna and the homeowner worked together to design a system that would save the existing foundation and protect the homeowner from having to move out of their home for repairs. The StabeLock system features a new foundation wall that is poured and secured to the existing failing wall. This not only saves the homeowner from extensive home renovation but can be finished in as little as two days without disrupting the home, all while saving the homeowner money. The homeowner is able to rest easy now knowing that their home is protected and their foundation won't cause them anymore issues.

Fixing Sagging Floors with SmartJacks

Since 1967, this Arundel, ME, homeowner has lived in their home, and over time they have noticed their floors sagging more and more. With braces rotting and not wanting the problem to get worse, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to book a free estimate. System Design Specialist John Wright met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a system that would meet the needs of the home and keep the homeowner safe.

The floor above needed to be braced and supported to level the floor and prevent sagging from happening in the future. SmartJacks were installed where needed with the addition of a new Supplemental Beam. SmartJacks can correct problems such as sloping and overly springy floors and out-of-level door frames. Because of the design of SmartJacks, they can be adjusted overtime as needed to compensate for changes in the home. SmartJacks are galvanized for corrosion resistance and can be used with the CleanSpace system if an area is plagued with high moisture or water issues. Now that the SmartJacks are installed, the homeowner is able to have a level floor without it feeling like a trampoline, and their home is no longer at risk of wall cracks or unsafe living conditions.
